As a young boy I dreamed of flying. In fact, for the last several years I’ve tried to work my way into R/C planes, but it’s a rather difficult thing to learn on your own. I figured out quickly that I needed a mentor/coach to help me get to the point where I could confidently fly a plan. While taking the students to camp this week, I thought about what it was like when I would go to camp. Camp to me was an opportunity to get away from “normal” life and get focused. One Monday morning while at the gym, I unfortunately encountered the death of a fellow patron of the gym. He collapsed and died on the running track serveral feet away from where I was playing volleyball. As I and the others began to react I noticed there were three kinds of people.
I grew up in a small community where it was ok to wave at the person you were driving by. In fact, sometimes the biggest traffic issues was that people were always waiting for the other person to go first. I quickly learned that was not the case when I moved to Chicago.
